PC keyboard controls
These are the default keyboard controls once you are seated in a vehicle.
- WAccelerate(or Up Arrow)
- SBrake / Reverse(or Down Arrow)
- ADSteer left / right(or Left / Right Arrow)
- FStart / stop engine
- EShift up a gear(Press 3× to set gearing to Drive)
- QShift down a gear
- PParking brake
- BBuckle / unbuckle seatbelt
- Eject — remove all passengers from your vehicle
- Lock / Unlock — secure your vehicle
- Panic — toggle the vehicle alarm
How to start driving
The exact sequence that gets a new car moving:
- Get into your vehicle. If you just joined, the engine may already be running.
- Press F to start the engine if it is off.
- Press E three times to set your gearing to Drive. E shifts up and Q shifts down.
- Hold W (or the Up Arrow) to accelerate. Your lights switch to automatic by default.
If your car will not move, you are almost always still in Neutral or Park. Tap E until the on-screen gear indicator reads Drive.
Mobile and console controls
On mobile, the same actions appear as on-screen buttons once you enter a vehicle: a throttle/brake pedal pair, a steering option, and buttons for the engine, gears, parking brake and seatbelt. On console, steering and throttle map to the analog sticks and triggers, with face and bumper buttons handling gears and the engine. You can fine-tune steering sensitivity and camera behaviour in the in-game Settings menu.
Recommended settings
- Keep vehicle camera on for a more stable chase-cam while driving at speed.
- Enable the Adaptive Vehicle Camera FOV option for a better sense of speed.
- Always press Back on the settings menu so your configuration saves before you return to your car.
